1. After graduating with a master’s degree, I joined the design department of a large state-owned enterprise to work on pressure vessel design in the chemical industry. I was involved in a wide range of projects, including horizontal and vertical vessels as well as heat exchangers. My annual salary is sufficient to cover my basic needs in my city, but it’s not particularly high. I have been working there for three years now; I hold a relatively low position, but I am responsible for leading certain research and development projects. 2. There are currently job opportunities to switch to foreign companies, those among the Fortune 500 – very strong organizations – with a guaranteed salary increase of 1.5 times. The role involves working as a design engineer for pharmaceutical machinery; it involves pressure vessels as well, along with research and development tasks. I’m quite torn and don’t know how to choose; I hope fellow sailors can help and give me some advice.

It depends on your own situation. State-owned enterprises are relatively rigid; it’s a bit like the old system of equal distribution, where experience plays a key role, but you won’t go hungry anyway. Foreign companies are different; they don’t tolerate people who are idle. If you have the skills and want to strive for success, you can consider changing jobs. But if you don’t have great ambitions and just want better working conditions, it’s better not to change jobs, as the competition in foreign companies is intense and the workload is heavy.

My situation is similar to the original poster’s; I currently work for a multinational company. As for me, I really like the working atmosphere there – there are many projects available, my salary is much higher than before, and it also helps me improve my English skills. A few days ago, several headhunters called me, offering jobs at other multinational companies; they were probably interested in my experience working in multinational firms and on overseas projects. I declined their offers, as I want to focus on working and learning for a few more years

In foreign companies, high work capabilities are required and there are many opportunities for promotion, while state-owned enterprises offer a more comfortable working environment but far fewer chances for advancement. If you are capable and not satisfied with the status quo, consider changing jobs without hesitation. Otherwise, it’s better to live such a comfortable life, almost like retirement.

Looking at the situation in recent years, private and foreign companies are laying off employees everywhere; state-owned enterprises, on the other hand, are good places to gain experience and build a stable career foundation. One can obtain professional titles and certification credentials. Since you’re not in financial distress right now, it’s better to focus and concentrate on your work.
