Pipelines for Class A/B hazardous substances (liquids) need to be insulated, and polyurethane is considered for this purpose. What are the specific fire resistance requirements for polyurethane? Are there any strict regulations regarding self-extinguishing properties and oxygen index? They are the regulations that must be met. Also, is the insulation material outside the storage tank the same as that used for the pipes?
Flame-retardant. The oxygen index should not be less than 30%.
Non-combustible materials should be used. When the insulation layer is made of flame-retardant foam plastics, its oxygen index should be no less than 30. Please read the Fire Protection Code for Petrochemical Design carefully~~
Petroleum Industry Regulation 6.1.2: The insulation layer of liquid hydrocarbon and flammable liquid storage tanks shall be made of non-combustible materials. When the insulation layer is made of flame-retardant foam plastics, its oxygen index should be no less than 30. In the explanatory notes, specific examples are given showing that polyurethane foam materials cannot be used. . . Polyurethanes generally can only achieve a flame-retardant level and fail to meet the standards.
