Our company has an ultrasonic flow meter, and the flow rate drops to 0 when vacuum is applied. I would like to ask what effect vacuum has on ultrasonic flow meters?
The propagation of ultrasonic waves requires a medium; sound waves cannot travel in a vacuum. Although creating a vacuum does not result in an actual vacuum condition, it still affects the transmission of sound waves.
It’s like when someone speaks to you; a medium is needed for the transmission, which can be air, solids, liquids, and so on, so that you can hear them
