Hello everyone, does a single-row axial expansion joint have radial compensation capability? Can the fixed support behind a single-axis expansion joint be placed in the pipeline after a vertical bend in order to absorb part of the expansion in that vertical pipeline?
Some expert, please give me some advice. I would be very grateful
Single-axis expansion joints are commonly used in straight pipe sections where the displacement is axial, mainly because these joints have a limited capacity to absorb radial displacement; in other words, their ability to provide radial compensation is very poor. I didn’t understand the latter part of the question. . .
My pipeline is currently L-shaped, with an expansion amount of 5 mm on the radial pipe. Could a single axial expansion joint be considered to absorb this expansion?
Are you planning to install it on a vertical pipe?
For an L-shaped pipeline, is it possible to install an expansion joint on the long arm and a fixed support on the short arm?

Due to the L-shaped arrangement, there is expansion along the axial direction as well as a thrust in the radial direction
1 can absorb a small amount of lateral deformation; 2 it is not recommended to do so, as high pressure will result in large bending moments.
