The medium is oil, the pipes are made of carbon steel, instruments are connected in between, and these instruments use stainless steel flanges. The customer does not require insulated bolts. May I ask, what material of bolts are considered insulated bolts? Also, for oil-based media, is an electrostatic bonding wire required between the flanges? If a jumper is needed, what’s the point of using insulated bolts? ? Urgent, looking forward to a reply
Static bypass wires are not required for pipeline flanges in oil media. An insulated bolt is one whose shank is equipped with an insulating sleeve, ensuring that it does not come into contact with the flange when inserted through the bolt hole; likewise, the nut, along with its washers, also does not make direct contact with the flange.
Will this instrument be affected by static electricity? I guess the use of insulating bolts is to prevent the bolts from coming into contact with the instrument; if insulating bolts are used, then an anti-static bonding wire will be necessary. Insulated flanges and insulated bolts are generally used in boundary areas; the pipes inside the workshop need to be electrically bonded together, rather than being fitted with insulated bolts. The client should confirm the installation locations
Personal opinion: The owner’s requirement is probably due to the fact that the materials on either side of the flange are different, and since the medium is crude oil, electrochemical corrosion can occur; that’s why insulated bolts are recommended; And does the resulting static charge need to be conducted away using another similar grounding wire?
