The specific process is as follows: the oil flows from the truck tank by gravity to the unloading buffer tank, and then from there to the pump inlet, where it is pumped to the storage tank area for storage ; The general approach is to allow the pump to draw the liquid oil directly from the buffer tank, rather than directly from the tank truck, in order to prevent slow flow of the oil from the tank truck to the pump; this avoids situations where the oil cannot be replenished in time, leading to vacuum conditions in the pump and potential damage to it. However, I don’t know how to determine the size of the buffer tank.
Buffer tanks are not required for oil unloading trucks. You are considering that the pump might run dry because you have chosen a centrifugal pump for unloading. It is recommended that you use positive displacement pumps for unloading, such as rotor pumps or screw pumps; these provide excellent unloading performance and will not cause the problems you mentioned. Now, volume pumps are used for unloading and cleaning silos in railways, ensuring that the residual oil is removed completely; not to mention their use in unloading goods from road tankers.
