I’m a junior graduate; it’s been almost 4 years since I graduated. I work at one of the two major oil companies, where a new refinery is being built, and we’re currently preparing for its commissioning. My current salary is less than 4,000 yuan (to be honest, I’m a bit disappointed). There’s a tobacco company that is hiring people for positions in fragrance and flavor development, but I don’t know much about this industry, so I’m not sure whether I should give it a try I’m seeking advice from those who know more

I have a master’s degree and 4 years of work experience; I’m almost 30 now. Why bother with all this chaos? It’s better to work steadily in an oil and petrochemical refinery and earn honest money. Fragrances are such a niche industry – entering it at your age means you’ll still be a beginner even after working there for another 5 years

I currently work in petrochemical and chemical engineering design. I used to be involved in the research and development of liquid crystal intermediates, which falls under the category of fine chemicals, specifically organic synthesis. I also worked on fragrance development in a laboratory setting. Organic synthesis involves toxic substances that can be harmful to health; one has to monitor reactions throughout the day, often working overtime as well. Later, I switched to designing. In terms of working conditions, this job isn’t as comfortable as what the original poster has now. As for earnings, starting out in a new industry at the age of 30 means that the initial salary won’t be high, and it may take another ten or eight years to become an expert – you can try it if you don’t believe me. It’s clear how poor China’s economic situation is at the moment. Petrochemical refineries offer stable jobs with good benefits. Moreover, I don’t think there’s no room for advancement in the original poster’s current position. So, I still recommend that the original poster stay at their current employer
