The existing pipeline has a drop of around 50 meters, with a total length of approximately 260 meters. A DN1400 electric butterfly valve of the SD941-16C type is installed at the end of the pipeline. When the pipeline gate is fully open, it is opened using an electric device: the Changzhou Xinneng Z250-18W model. Once it reaches one-fifth of its full opening position, the electric device stops automatically, and it can no longer be opened electrically. But it can be turned off. When the pipeline gate is closed, the butterfly valve can be opened and closed fully using an electric actuator. Please give some advice on the likelihood of such a problem occurring.

Could it be that the actuator torque isn’t high enough?
The pressure difference before and after the butterfly valve is too high, exceeding the torque of the electric actuator, which is why it cannot be opened. Do I have to open the gate valve first? Adjust the order if the process permits. Alternatively, the butterfly valve can be opened to a certain angle first before opening the gate valve. Alternatively, a bypass valve can be added in front of and behind the butterfly valve; the bypass valve is opened first, and once the pressure difference between the front and back sides drops to a certain level, the butterfly valve is opened (the bypass valve is then closed after the butterfly valve is opened).
The reason it won’t open is that there is a large pressure difference before and after the electric butterfly valve; if you use a butterfly valve with a bypass, then there will be no problem. One can add a bypass valve on their own; when opening the electric butterfly valve, it’s sufficient to open the bypass valve first to balance the pressure difference
Currently, it is suspected that either the electrical components of the butterfly valve or the torque of the turbine head connected to those electrical components is insufficient. Do anyone else have any good suggestions?
The pressure difference is too high; the torque of the butterfly valve motor is insufficient, which may lead to motor burnout. Using a gate valve or ball valve should resolve this issue
