Our sulfur recovery facility has a capacity of 100,000 tons per year, and it has been in operation for over 3 years; gradually, problems related to direct flow through the water traps have started to occur. On the one hand, direct steam flow causes severe water hammer in the condensate pipelines, resulting in energy waste from steam being vented on-site; on the other hand, it also leads to sulfur solidification and pipeline blockages. Currently, in our workshop, low- and medium-pressure steam with a pressure level of 0.28 MPa is used for heat tracing, and bimetallic thermometers are selected for the steam traps. What type of traps are used in everyone’s sulfur recovery units? Is it useful? Or are there any suggestions on what type of desiccant is more suitable for sulfur recovery units?
The drainage temperature of bimetallic steam traps is adjustable; it’s normal to check and adjust them one or two times a year. There are also cases where adjustments aren’t possible, in which case the trap needs to be replaced. After each adjustment, it is necessary to observe for an extended period of time; only after reaching a state of equilibrium can the effects of the adjustment be accurately assessed.
