Regarding the demister

I would like to ask whether a demister is needed for a packed tower used for the absorption of HCl by water

A demister must be installed before the gas-phase outlet pipe of the packed absorption tower. The HCL absorption tower contains inert exhaust gases, and it is difficult to achieve complete absorption of HCL during actual operation. HCL and the droplets and mist containing HCL are also discharged from the tower system along with the exhaust gases. Moreover, any type of filler will provide data on the amount of liquid leakage under the corresponding gas-liquid mass transfer conditions, that is, the amount of liquid droplets and mist carried in the exhaust gas. The demister installed in the HCL absorption tower serves to remove the acidic droplets and mist carried in the exhaust gas, trapping them before the gas leaves the absorption tower and thus preventing the emission of acidic mist at levels exceeding the permitted limits.
Our plant doesn’t have such a setup; behind the first and second stage falling film absorbers, there are 5 fiberglass-filled towers from which the liquid is discharged directly. The last filled tower continuously supplies fresh water
