I would like to ask how to determine the number of operations of the setpoint valve in Siemens PS2 regulators that do not have Hart functionality. The product standard is over 200 million operations, which means that with one operation per second, the lifespan exceeds 6 years; in actual use, the operation frequency will certainly not exceed 1 operation per second
Rather than considering the number of operations of the piezoelectric valve, it would be better to explore the typical service life of the pressure reducing valve! How many times do the filters need to be replaced when they get dirty? Have you considered the service life of the diaphragm inside?
A positioner is an electrical converter plus a valve position negative feedback. A piezoelectric valve is a nozzle flap mechanism, and its operating frequency is not the main factor determining its lifespan. What is a control valve, and what is automatic control? It’s about knowing where it moves at all times; so how do you count the number of times it moves? If the number of actuations determines the lifespan of the piezoelectric valve, then by switching the control valve circuit to manual mode, can the positioner last longer? ? I feel that rather than spending time on counting the number of operations of this piezoelectric valve, it would be better to optimize the PID parameters of the control circuit for the regulating valve; by improving the control quality of the circuit, the lifespan of the actuator will naturally increase.
The piezoelectric valves in Siemens positioners often fail, and this has nothing to do with the quality of the process gas. The instrument air in our air separation plant is very clean, but the piezoelectric valves still break down frequently. Personally, I suggest replacing them all; I recommend Yamauchi’s products – they are cheap and reliable.
