Based on the HAZOP analysis, for a steam heat exchanger used in the design, with steam at 0.8 MPa.G and the gas to be heated at 1.55 MPa.G, considering the possibility of leakage in the heat exchanger tubes, is it necessary to install a safety valve on the steam pipeline? The setting pressure of the safety valve should be able to be set at 0.98 MPa.G according to the pressure in the steam pipeline network. But when calculating the safety valve, are factors such as the discharge volume and the substance discharged also considered based on steam?
Or should other security measures be adopted? Are there any relevant cases?
Normally, steam pipelines are equipped with safety valves, not just for this heat exchanger. Furthermore, what level of leakage would be required for light leakage to cause the safety valve to activate? That would definitely constitute an accident. In fact, it should be sufficient to install an on-line analyzer in the steam condensate pipeline in order to monitor whether the gas components you mentioned are present in the condensate. Or regular manual sampling and analysis is also an option. This allows one to determine whether there is a leak in the heat exchanger.
