Our company has high production volumes recently, resulting in severe CO alarms in the coke oven basements (out of 19 sensors, 16 triggered alarms, with alarm levels ranging from 24 to 96 ppm); however, the hydrogen detectors do not trigger any alarms. All the flue windows on the machine and burner sides are now open, and air supply ducts have been installed in the basement; yet the results remain poor. We are now gradually cleaning the gas branch pipes! Coke oven type TH4350D, 2x72 holes. I would like to ask if there are any better methods, or if you could provide a reference document for the ventilation design of coke oven basements. Thank you

It’s just that the output has increased – 136 holes per day, whereas when the market was poor, it was 60-80 holes per day. Coke oven gas is the purified gas obtained from the raw gas produced by coke ovens, through processes such as condensation, electrostatic capture, aeration, desulfurization, and debenzeneization. High production volume indicates that the pressure on your supervisor has increased; it’s possible that the plug seal is not working properly. You can use a portable detector to check it. With so many probes giving alarms at the same time, the possibility of damage is ruled out.
Our factory also called the police. Firstly, there is a problem with the orientation of our coke ovens; the wind direction is incorrect, which causes chemical gases to get inside and triggers alarms frequently. Additionally, when the valve in your basement is switched, gases escape – the valve isn’t lacking oil
When encountering such difficult situations to handle, our approach is to create a table related to the issues. List the possible causes (as many as there may be) that could lead to this problem, then check each one one by one, analyze and rule them out, and finally identify the root cause before taking action! CO alarms are usually triggered in areas where there is an excessive leakage of gas. 1. The pressure regulation of the valve is not proper. 2. Insufficient lubrication. 3. The adjustment times for air and gas are incorrect. 4. Leaks are occurring due to improper sealing of the lower nozzle plug or tee. 5. Residual gas blocked at the stopcock cannot be drawn away during descent. Ventilation does play a certain role, but it is not the main cause; the source of the CO leakage should be identified.
