Recently, the company intends to adjust its development strategy regarding commercial storage centers for ethane and LPG; however, at present we only have design specifications for LNG and LPG, and it is completely impossible to find any information on design specifications or management regulations for ethane. I wonder if there are any experts on the forum who have knowledge of or are familiar with the storage and transportation technologies for ethane? Could you share the relevant technical materials?
Ethane has properties similar to those of methane. The storage temperature for low-temperature ethane is slightly higher than that for low-temperature methane. The main component of LNG is methane; therefore, it is appropriate to follow the practices related to LNG when designing, operating, and managing low-temperature ethane.
The main component of LNG is methane (80%~95%), with the remainder being ethane and propane; The main component of LPG is propane (about 95%), with the remainder being methane and ethane ; Therefore, the design specifications for LNG and LPG can both be referenced.
The boiling point of ethane is around -90°C; compared to liquefied natural gas, it requires less investment and is easier to transport. Ethane is primarily used as a raw material for olefins, to produce ethylene and propylene, as well as by-products such as butenes, butadiene, and benzene.
It would certainly be best to refer to the LNG industry as a model~~~ Ethane and ethylene have similar physical properties as well as storage and transportation requirements. In China, there are many low-temperature ethylene storage tanks, and there are far more professionals with expertise in this area, as well as those skilled in operation and management, compared to the LNG industry. I suggest you consider this option. You could also consider consulting directly with manufacturers of patent-based technologies for cryogenic storage and transportation, such as TGE and IHI, as it is these companies that you will ultimately turn to for bidding.
Referencing LNG is an option as well, but the investment cost will likely be quite high
Referring to LNG, the investment is likely to be higher. Currently, in China, Xinpu Olefins has built 1*120,000 m3 of low-temperature ethane tanks and 2*120,000 m3 of low-temperature propane tanks ; Lianyungang Satellite Petrochemical is also starting to build low-temperature ethane storage tanks; there are existing examples that can serve as references. Consulting with a design institute will provide accurate information.
