Emergency release valve? Haven’t heard of it~ If you’re referring to a safety valve, then according to GB50160, options 5.5.5, 5.5.9, and 5.5.12 are available for selection. In summary, it is connected in series in front of the safety valve because the substance may corrode or clog it; it is connected in parallel because the reaction could proceed violently and the safety valve would not be able to handle the discharge.
I asked the people who work with storage tanks, and they replied that the sensitivity of safety valves is not as high as that of rupture disks; moreover, if a safety valve fails, it can cause serious problems, as such valves remain closed most of the time and only release pressure when there is an overpressure condition, and this is usually controlled during the filling process.
Whether to choose a safety valve alone, a burst disc alone, or a combination of both depends on the medium and operating conditions. Some media are highly corrosive and cannot come into direct contact with safety valves; therefore, a burst disc is connected in series before the safety valve.
