Three-way connections over 48” definitely exist. Generally speaking, the larger the diameter, the more difficult it is to manufacture. Parts with a greater wall thickness can be formed by hot extrusion, while those with a thinner wall thickness can only be joined by welding or using slip joints; of course, they can also be welded directly.
Which standard should be used when selecting a tee larger than 48”? ?
I remember that for seawater cooling pipes, there are tee types over 48 inches in diameter, which are considered non-standard components
It is recommended to use MSS SP-75, which has welded connections at all three joints. It is widely used in high-pressure gas transmission stations.
It should be noted that the tee is formed by hot pressing seamless pipes, and 48\" seamless steel pipes are relatively rare. It can also be done in special cases.
According to SH/T 3408-2012, the maximum size for tees is 64 inches; any larger size is determined by the technical specifications set by the design institute.
