Our company currently has a tower made of Q245R material, which has been unused for 2 years. Now, a new project requires a distillation tower and we would like to reuse that existing tower. The design specifications for the tower made of Q245R are as follows: pressure of 0.35–0.1 MPa, temperature of 200 degrees. For the distillation tower needed in the new project, the recommended material is Q345R, with a working pressure of -0.05–-0.095 MPa and an operating temperature of 200–280 degrees. Could experts please advise whether it is possible to use the Q245R tower as a substitute?
The poster had better carry out a strength calculation to check whether there are any differences between the tower height, diameter, and the requirements for the tower at present. After all, pressure vessels cannot be explained clearly in just a few words.

First, it is necessary to consider the material properties and internal components of the old and new systems (whether the old tower can meet the processing capacity and separation efficiency requirements of the new materials) ; Second, once the first aspect is fine, then consider the equipment itself (wall thickness, feed inlet, reflux method, etc.) ; Third, and finally, consider the costs: if the volume of material to be processed is not large and the separation process is not difficult, the cost of modifying an existing tower (in terms of materials used) is not much different from that of building a new tower. In short, no simple conclusions can be drawn; detailed design and calculations are necessary, otherwise it will be difficult to produce a product!
