These days, many tank areas involving hazardous chemical processes and major hazard sources require the installation of an SIS system. I’ve seen that when design firms design SIS systems for such processes, they install locked buttons on the SIS interlock control panels, with an emergency stop button and a reset button provided for each interlock. Are these two buttons necessary for hazardous chemical processes? If an SIS system is installed in the tank area to interlock and stop the feed pump as well as close the feed isolation valve when the liquid level in the tanks is too high, are emergency stop buttons and reset buttons also necessary? What if there’s a fire on site? Even in the absence of a high liquid level, an immediate emergency stop is still necessary. The reset button is completely unnecessary; communication with the SIS can be achieved through the DCS interface. Some of the designs put forward by the design institutes are also unreasonable
When it comes to operations now, safety is the top priority; those individual suggestions from the irrigation areas are not necessary
Manual shutdown is only part of the control circuit; it is a function carried out by the SIS, which stops the feed pump and closes the feed shut-off valve when the liquid level reaches the high-high alarm level.
