In the 60WT methanol low-temperature methanol washing process, distilled non-condensable gas is introduced; at low load levels, the exhaust gas contains an unpleasant CO2 odor. What causes this, and what measures can be taken to reduce this odor? There is still an odor even when no non-condensable gases are introduced!
Alcohols have an unpleasant odor, sulfur has a foul smell, and ammonia has a stinky scent. Check them one by one
The introduction of distilled non-condensable gas may be caused by amines in the non-condensable gas, or hydrogen sulfide and organic sulfur in CO2. This gas can be used to fuel a torch or as a fuel gas. If it is caused by hydrogen sulfide and organic sulfur in CO2, it is controlled by adjusting the flow rate of sulfur-free methanol at the top of the CO2 desorption tower. If no distillation of non-condensable gases is employed, it must be caused by hydrogen sulfide and organic sulfur in the CO2; this is controlled by adjusting the flow rate of sulfur-free methanol at the top of the CO2 desorption tower.
In my opinion, distillation without the use of non-condensable gases should not be combined with purification processes; firstly, this would cause corrosion in the exhaust gas scrubber, the methanol washing tower, as well as related piping and equipment. Secondly, it would result in unpleasant odors in the exhaust gas, which is not economical
Is the temperature higher than during high load? Methanol is highly volatile; the higher the temperature, the more it evaporates
Check whether the methanol flow rate in the desulfurization section of the absorption tower is too low, which results in sulfur being present in the sulfur-free methanol.
