What type of surface pump can replace a submersible sewage pump? When our facility’s biochemical station was built, submersible sewage pumps were used for the sludge transition tank and emergency tank. Over time, it became apparent that the maintenance costs were high; in particular, the problem of water entering the motors, which affected the quality of repairs, remained unresolved. Do any of you have any good suggestions? Please share them

Self-priming pumps are the preferred choice, or long-shaft submersible pumps, vertical single-screw pumps
Conventionally, ZW self-priming sewage pumps are used, with a self-priming height of around 5 meters. For corrosion-resistant applications, fluorine-lined self-priming pumps can also be used, but there must be no particulate impurities. Actually, there are many alternatives; it depends on your operating conditions and price requirements.

The sludge concentration tanks and accident tanks at the biochemical plant contain a large amount of dead sludge, and the flow rate of self-priming pumps is not sufficient to handle it. For example: A pump was selected for the clear water tank. Initially, a submersible sewage pump with a flow rate of 150 cubic meters per hour, a head of 30 meters, and a power rating of 18.5 KW was used; later, a self-priming sewage pump with a flow rate of 150 cubic meters per hour, a head of 40 meters, and a power rating of 22 KW was employed. Yet these pumps still could not meet the operational requirements, as they consumed too much electricity. Long-shaft submersible pumps have high maintenance costs, are difficult to repair, and the costs associated with the shaft sleeves and bearings in the upper, middle, and lower sections are also substantial!
The composition of sludge is generally complex, making it very difficult to select the appropriate pump. Sludge has high viscosity and density, as well as a high friction coefficient against pipe walls. The theoretical suction height of self-priming pumps is 10 meters; currently, the highest suction height available abroad is 8-9 meters, while the figures in China are much lower. Unless imported pumps are used.
Finding ways to improve the quality of maintenance is also a solution; working together with the manufacturers to address these issues, giving priority to product selection and management, though management is also very important.
