Should a safety valve be installed in low-pressure storage tanks? In what situations should safety valves be installed on storage tanks? ? I have a methanol storage tank with a capacity of 5 cubic meters, which is sealed with nitrogen at a pressure of 50 KPA. Safety valves were considered for use in case of a fire. However, the design team raised concerns and suggested converting the tank into a tank that operates at atmospheric pressure (with the pressure reduced to 3–5 KPA). They said that if the safety valves failed, there would be no way to release pressure, so an emergency release valve in the form of a manual valve should be added. They argued that safety valves were unnecessary and suggested removing them. What I would like to ask is: 1. Can manual valve pipelines alone serve as a means for discharge? Can a large amount of discharge actually be released? Why can a safety valve release such a large volume of fluid? 2. Can a safety valve be omitted if the pressure in the storage tank is reduced? No need to worry about the fire?
This storage tank doesn’t need a safety valve; it’s not a pressure vessel. While retaining the manual pressure relief valve, an emergency pressure relief manhole can also be added. When the breather valve fails, the emergency pressure relief manhole releases pressure automatically

It can’t be generalized; some materials are not suitable. Safety valves operate at high pressures, while pressure relief vents are accessories for equipment that operates at atmospheric pressure, and they are generally used in larger storage containers
For storage tanks, such as those used for oil storage pipelines, we generally install prismatic pressure relief valves, with the pressure relief setting at 0.4 MPa
