I’m watching a training course on pressure vessel design; one of the chapters is titled “Basic Knowledge of Engineering Mechanics”. After studying it for a while, I realized that a foundation in mechanics is required, and the only level of mechanics knowledge I have is from high school. I would like to ask: should I give up on this chapter? If not, you need to look at that mechanics book

Pressure vessel design is divided into conventional design (GB150) and analytical design (JB4732). In analytical design, mechanics serves as the foundation. In conventional design, engineering mechanics is not particularly necessary

It is necessary; otherwise, it’s just a mechanical application of formulas without understanding why they work, and that’s not correct. Conventional design can pass for now, but it’s completely unacceptable when stress analysis is involved. Moreover, even with conventional design, if you don’t understand the principles, mistakes can still occur, sometimes even fatal ones; therefore, it is still necessary to study engineering mechanics.
I haven’t looked at the stress analysis yet; I’m not sure how widely it’s applied
