I read that steam traps should be installed at the condensate outlets of heat exchangers, reactor jackets, and steam coils in books, but none of these devices in our company have such traps. What is the difference between installing steam traps at these locations and not installing them? What are the benefits of installation? Can it save steam?

A steam trap is a device used for draining water from a reboiler; it allows water to be drained while preventing steam from escaping. Installing a steam trap can save steam; without it, the liquid discharge will contain steam, resulting in waste
With a steam trap, there is no need for manual adjustment of the valve opening, which reduces the workload on operators and also achieves the energy-saving goal of preventing steam from escaping while allowing water to be drained.
It mainly depends on the quantity; if the amount is large, it definitely won’t work, but if the amount is small, it can be considered for use

Here, we also use a bypass system for the traps: when there is water accumulation due to hoses or purge heating, the flow is routed through the bypass, while when actual steam is in use, the flow goes through the trap.
