I remember when I was at Shi*, the refinery’s pumps had oil-sealing and flushing systems, which made operation rather complicated. Our company plans to modify the seals of those high-temperature pumps so as to return to the previous mode of operation. What do you all think?
The seal oil system for refinery pumps is a highly sophisticated pump sealing technique. Why change it? The operation is not complicated anyway – but will it still work after the change?
Through painful lessons, Sinopec changed high-temperature pumps from single-seal to double-seal design; currently, design institutes both at home and abroad use the double-seal design – why do you still want to revert to the single-seal design? Is the design approved? If an accident occurs, the person who made the change will bear heavy responsibility; in worst cases, they might even end up in prison.
Double-end face mechanical seals are used for high-hazard media in order to ensure that, in the event of a seal leakage, such hazardous substances do not escape and cause environmental or even safety accidents. With single-seal designs, this cannot be guaranteed; those working in this field should consider the safety of themselves and their colleagues, if not for anyone else’s sake!
Once it’s modified, it will definitely work, and the operation will be simpler, but the security level **decreases**.
