Can the shell of the electrodesalination tank in crude oil processing equipment be made of 16MnDR material?
No problem at all; materials are selected based on the design temperature, and we often use Q345R as well. If the design temperature is low, using 16MnDR is certainly fine.
Why use DR? There’s no need. There are temperature requirements for crude oil entering the electrodesalting tank, as this facilitates the separation of oil from salts and water; too low a temperature hinders such separation, and the tank also needs to be insulated.
The design temperature is 170°C.
Then how did the idea of using DR come about?
The delivery deadline is tight – it’s less than a month from now – and the supplier has informed us that they cannot obtain normalized plates of this specification
It’s not possible to obtain normalized plates of Q345R
