Generally speaking, people always prefer materials with a higher level of flame retardancy. There are various flame retardancy testing methods available today, and each of these methods has its limitations; the conclusions drawn from them are therefore relative. Therefore, it is not the case that a higher flame retardancy rating is always better; for example, materials rated UL94 V-0 are generally considered to be better than those rated V-2. However, some electrical products require materials to be resistant to arc ignition, in which case V-2 grade is better than V-0 grade. This is because 94V-2 grade plastics do not become conductive and clog up under electrical influence, thereby **reducing the likelihood of ignition, whereas 94 V-0 grade plastics behave in the opposite way.
