Why are fixed-bed tubular reactors always vertical?

Fixed-bed tubular reactors are all vertical. Why aren’t horizontal ones used? What are the factors involved? For example, considerations related to catalyst loading – are there any other factors as well?
Depending on the type of reaction, a fixed-bed tubular reactor is generally used for gas-solid or liquid-solid reactions; its vertical design facilitates the formation of laminar flow, results in minimal mixing, and requires less floor space, among other advantages. A fixed-bed can be regarded as a tower; have you seen a horizontal tower?
In a tower, the gas and liquid phases are present; when it is in a horizontal configuration, uniform contact cannot be achieved, which hinders mass and heat transfer. This is not the case with catalytic reactions involving gases. What are the disadvantages of using a horizontal design, and is there any theoretical basis for it?
Isn’t a horizontal one a plug-flow reactor then? Is there any plug-flow reaction in a pure gas phase? I’m not sure about this either
In my humble opinion, a vertical design is advantageous for the use of catalysts
