Sludge dewatering: is a spiral press better or a belt press? If they have the same power, which one has a higher efficiency and is more cost-effective?
The main focus is on the composition of the sludge; if sticky substances such as oily colloids, gums, and flocs are present, belt-type systems cannot be used as they are prone to clogging. This problem does not exist with stacked spiral filters. For the same treatment capacity, the power consumption and floor space required by stacked spiral reactors should be lower.
Each has its advantages: spiral presses and belt presses feature a high degree of automation, but the moisture content of the sludge produced is relatively high, around 85% on average; plate and frame presses can achieve a moisture content of around 75%, while high-pressure diaphragm presses reach around 65%. In other words, their degree of automation is not as high as that of the former types.

Compared to belt filter presses, screw presses are smaller in size and require less frequent repair and maintenance. Band filter presses cannot be used with sludge containing oil, as this reduces the water permeability of the filter belt. The moisture content is more or less the same; it mainly depends on the properties of the sludge.
We use those from Jiangsu Boyi; they are used for treating sludge with a high moisture content. The amount of maintenance required is very low – as long as they are cleaned thoroughly after each use, there’s basically no need to replace any parts for several years.
