Automatic control instruments can be classified by generation as follows: Pneumatic instruments – air supply pressure of 0.14 MPa, signal transmission pressure of 0.02–0.1 MPa; DDZ Type I: uses vacuum tube components, powered by 220 V, with signal transmission at 0–10 mA; DDZ Type II: consists of discrete components, powered by 24 V, with signals transmitted at 4–20 mA; DDZ Type III: Integrated circuit, 24V power supply, 4-20mA ; Smart meters ; 24V power supply, digital communication signal ; Fieldbus instruments: Use fieldbus for signal transmission.

The electric combined unit instrument is a type of instrument manufactured by China’s older-generation instrument factories; four generations have been produced, namely DDZ-Ⅰ, DDZ-Ⅱ, DDZ-Ⅲ, and DDZ-S. The first three generations were analog instruments, while the DDZ-S is a hybrid digital-analog instrument; unfortunately, such instruments are no longer seen these days. Intelligent transmitters are mostly patented products from foreign companies; they use microprocessors, offer more functions (some of which may never be used in practice), are more expensive, and exhibit greater monopolistic tendencies.
