China’s First E-GAS Gasification Furnace Successfully Manufactured Author/Source: China Chemical Industry News Date: 2016-08-18 Clicks: 31 On August 14, reporters learned from Maoming Gravity Petrochemical Machinery Manufacturing Co., Ltd. that the country’s first E-GAS gasification furnace, manufactured by this company, has been successfully loaded onto a ship at Maoming Port and is on its way to the site of CNOOC’s Huizhou Refining and Chemicaling Project Phase II. This marks the successful manufacture of domestically produced E-GAS gasifiers. Zhang Haofan, deputy chief engineer of Maoming Gravity and the person in charge of the gasifier project, explained that the 3 gasifiers contracted by Maoming Gravity Company are the core equipment for the 200,000 standard cubic meter coal gasification hydrogen production unit as part of the second phase of CNOOC Huizhou refinery’s expansion project, which aims to increase its refining capacity to 22 million tons per year, as well as the 1 million tons per year ethylene production facility. This gasifier utilizes the two-stage E-GAS gasification technology from the American company CB&I. These 3 gasification furnaces represent the first application of this technology in China, and they were all manufactured domestically for the first time by Maoming Gravity Company. After 1 year and 8 months of production, the first gasification furnace has been delivered to the Huizhou site. After the first unit was shipped, work is underway at full speed to manufacture the remaining 2 gasifiers, with the goal of completing and shipping them all by the end of August. It is reported that the gasifier features a cross-shaped structure, which is unique in China. Its maximum thickness is 252 millimeters and its maximum diameter is 4 meters. It consists of four sections, including the gasification section and the retention tank, and these sections are manufactured separately on-site. The total weight of the complete set of equipment is 840 tons; the materials used are complex, high precision is required during manufacturing, and thus the production process is quite challenging. After undertaking the task, Maoming Gravity, patent holder CB&I, and Sinopec Engineering Construction Company worked closely together, leveraging their respective strengths to complete the detailed design of the gasifier. Maoming Gravity conducts stress analysis and design for the key components of gasification furnace equipment, transforming the engineer’s drawings provided by patent holders into drawings ready for manufacturing. During the manufacturing phase, Maoming Gravity formulated and implemented manufacturing plans for various key components, overcoming technical challenges such as numerical control oxy-acetylene cutting for opening holes in a large forged cylinder with a diameter of 252 mm and thick horizontal sections at intersecting points, as well as welding of the intersecting welds. “Especially in the welding of large fillet welds, the skilled welders at Gravity Company, driven by a spirit of craftsmanship, managed to implement automatic welding for large-diameter saddle welds, successfully completing the welding tasks. This ensured the quality of equipment manufacturing, with all components meeting the design specifications and requirements set by the patent holder, earning praise from both the patent holder and the client. ”Zhang Haofan said. It is understood that Maoming Gravity Company has successively achieved the localization of large ethylene cracking furnaces, quench heat exchangers, polypropylene/polyethylene loop reactors, and multi-zone circulating reactors in China ; It possesses the capability for the overall manufacturing, pre-assembly, and transportation of super-large-scale equipment, and has produced a large number of large-scale, high-quality replacement imported equipment for the development of China’s petrochemical industry. By achieving domestic production of E-GAS gasification furnace equipment, it is possible to reduce the cost of the entire furnace setup, and this also facilitates maintenance and repairs in the future, thereby ensuring the long-term stable operation of the gasification furnace and enhancing the capacity for manufacturing major equipment ; It also helps to promote the E-GAS gasification technology domestically and advance the development of the coal chemical industry. It is reported that the E-GAS gasification technology is a clean energy technology used in coal chemical industry. Utilizing subbituminous coal, bituminous coal, and petroleum coke as raw materials, this technology achieves significantly higher carbon conversion rates, heat recovery efficiency, and energy efficiency compared to single-stage slurry coal gasification technology, thereby effectively reducing emissions of carbon dioxide and solid particles.
