How to achieve Profibus DP data reading without a PLC?

I’m facing a problem at the moment: there is a device equipped with a communication module (Sabo PLM730), which only supports Profibus DP communication. I don’t know how to read data from this device. I know that the PLC has DP communication capabilities, but I can’t afford to purchase another PLC just to read the data. Therefore, I’m looking for software or some other combination of hardware and software that would allow a PC to communicate with the device over DP
It’s very simple: purchase a CP5613 or CP5614 card to be inserted into the PC. The software can be configured using Siemens’ WinCC, or an OPC configuration can be done directly with Siemens’ SMC Net software package
Should a regular serial cable be used for the connection, or a DP cable specific to Siemens? Is there any other software that can do this? Actually, I don’t want to use WinCC or S7Step.....
Since it’s a DP system, of course specialized DP cables and connectors are used. Other software options are also available; most third-party SCADA software supports this, such as IFIX and so on
