The required operating power supply for the laser analyzer (four-wire type) is 18–36VDC, 900–1000mA, with a power consumption of 20W. The control room is located about 200 meters away from the site. It has its own Siemens 24VDC/10A power supply; when a wire was connected to the analyzer, the voltage measured was 23.8V, but the analyzer would not start. By disconnecting one wire and using a multimeter to measure the current, the value was only 70mA. Trying a different Siemens 24VDC/20A power supply also did not work. It seems that the low current is the reason why the analyzer cannot function. What should be done in this situation? Thank you all
Have you checked inside the analyzer? I’ve never used this thing before; should I pay attention to it?
First, you need to confirm that the diameter of your cable is sufficient; the voltage you measure should fall within the normal operating range of the meter. If you suspect that the power supply is insufficient, you can directly connect 220V to the site and install a transformer there to check things out
Your analyzer has only a power consumption of 200W, so a 480W power supply is more than sufficient. With a 200-meter cable and a voltage of 23.8V, the voltage drop is also within normal limits; I don’t think it’s related to the power supply. To rule out the possibility that the issue lies with the power supply, you can try using it on-site, opting for a DC adjustable transformer for testing purposes
It has been confirmed that it’s the Siemens power supply that is faulty; replacing it with a Siemens power supply resolved the issue. Thank you!
