The two main risks associated with working at heights are falls of personnel and impacts from falling objects. Of course, we can also identify other risks, such as damage to equipment and other such issues. But when it comes to work at heights, no matter how much is said, the key is still the preventive control of these two major risks. What I want to talk about here is the methods for preventing and controlling personnel falls. First, the seat belt is not safe. More and more companies are avoiding the use of belt-type safety belts; in fact, those are not fall-protection belts, but rather restraining straps used to free up the hands while working at heights or on edges, so as to maintain balance. Large, responsible companies are strongly promoting five-point safety belts with padded tear pockets and dual hooks. No matter how good a safety belt is, it serves only to prevent employees from falling to the ground; however, the impacts and shocks during the fall, as well as the damage caused by the safety belt itself while holding the body in place, can also be fatal. Second, a safety belt must be worn when working at a height of 2 meters or more; this is a general requirement specified in GB. But is it not necessary to use a seat belt at heights below two meters? At a height of two meters, at what height should the belt attachment point be positioned in order to prevent falling? Most of the five-point dual-hook fall-arrest safety belts produced in our country are manufactured in accordance with European standards. A distance of at least 6 meters from the suspension point to the falling surface is required to fully achieve the effect of preventing falls; otherwise, the person will still fall onto the falling surface and suffer injuries.
