On September 18, reporters learned from a press conference held at the Ganhe Industrial Park in the Xining Economic Development Zone at 21:00 on that day that at 14:17 on the same day, a flash explosion apparently caused by calcium carbide slag occurred in the dust collection system of the cement production line at the company’s eastern plant site. To date, the accident has resulted in 6 deaths, 8 people are under treatment in hospitals, and 1 person remains trapped at the scene. Qinghai Salt Lake Haina Co., Ltd. began construction in 2009 and was put into operation in 2013; it is mainly engaged in the production of PVC and cement with a daily output of 2,500 tons. The accident occurred at the dust collection device located on top of the slag silo in the company’s cement production line. At the time of the accident, 26 people were carrying out maintenance work at that cement production line. The explosion resulted in 2 deaths on the spot, 4 more deaths despite efforts by medical staff to save them, 1 person missing, 8 people injured, and 11 people unharmed.
