I’m a recent undergraduate graduate with a degree in Chemical Engineering and Technology. I work in the Research Laboratory of the Process Control and Energy Saving Center. I’ve been working here for half a month now, and there’s not much to do throughout the day. My supervisor has only given me some design specifications as well as books related to valve control; he also sent me a few CAD drawings for me to look at. I’m feeling quite lost right now – with nothing to do all day, it’s almost like I’m on vacation. All I know is that my role involves process design. I would really appreciate it if you, who are more experienced, could give me some advice on what I should do or recommend any good books. Based on your description, it seems that your job is more like that in a R&D department of a manufacturing plant rather than in a design firm. If you want to learn design, it might not be very useful here.
