Shenyang University of Chemical Technology was founded on July 15, 1952. At the time of its establishment, it was named “Shenyang Chemical Industry Technical School” and was under the jurisdiction of the Northeast People’s **Ministry of Industry. Its location was initially set at No. 3, Shangwu Street, Tiexi District, Shenyang (now No. 11, Aigong South Street). In those early years, the university offered three academic programs: chemistry engineering, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering； In October 1953, the school came under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Heavy Industry and was renamed the \"Shenyang Chemical Industry School of the Ministry of Heavy Industry\". From 1953 to 1958, the Department of Chemical Engineering at Shenyang Mechanical Industry School, the dyeing and analysis programs at Jilin Industrial School, the Electrical Engineering department at Dalian Industrial School, and Shenyang Chemical Industry School were successively integrated into the university ； In 1956, the Ministry of Chemical Industry was established; the school shifted from being under the Ministry of Heavy Industry to being under the Ministry of Chemical Industry ； On August 10, 1958, the school was upgraded to an undergraduate institution and officially became the \"Shenyang Institute of Chemical Technology\", under the jurisdiction of the Liaoning Provincial People’s Government. Guo Moruo, former president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, penned the name for the school ； In June 1960, with the approval of the Liaoning Provincial Party Committee, the college was renamed \"Liaoning University of Science and Technology\"; the organic synthesis program from Fushun Institute of Technology was integrated into this university, and its administrative leadership fell under the Liaoning Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences ； In April 1962, the school was once again placed under the Ministry of Chemical Industry; its name was changed back to Shenyang Institute of Chemical Technology, and Dalian Industrial College was merged into it ； During the Cultural Revolution from December 1970 to June 1978, the school was forced to relocate to Fushun City to continue its operations; the former Fushun Institute of Technology and Fushun Petroleum School were merged into this school, which was then renamed \"Fushun College of Chemical Engineering\"” ； In July 1978, the university moved back to Shenyang and resumed its original name, \"Shenyang Institute of Chemical Technology\", once again coming under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Chemical Industry ； In August 1998, the management system of higher education institutions was **reformed, and that institution’s management system became one based on joint responsibility between the central government and local authorities, with local authorities playing a primary role in management.** The school is one of the **first institutions to be granted the right to confer bachelor’s degrees**. In 1986, it began to collaborate with other universities to train master’s degree candidates, and in 1992 it started working with several domestic and international universities to train doctoral degree candidates. In 1993, it was approved by the State Council’s Academic Degrees Committee as an institution authorized to confer master’s degrees. Construction of the school’s new campus began in April 2001, and the school officially moved to the new campus in November 2001 to commence operations there. In July 2006, the university reclaimed control over the use and management of the college students’ living complex from its social investors, thereby achieving effective and orderly management of logistics – a practice that put it at the forefront of universities in Liaoning Province. On January 21, 2010, Shenyang Institute of Chemical Technology was officially renamed Shenyang University of Chemical Technology after passing the evaluation by the Ministry of Education.
