During shutdown, the liquid nitrogen tank was purged with gas at room temperature. After startup, after liquid nitrogen was fed into the tank for some time, the liquid level in the tank increased suddenly from 500 mm to 1800 mm (a similar situation occurred in the adjacent liquid argon tank as well). I checked the transmitter’s inputs and outputs, and they match the readings shown on the on-site level gauge; why is this phenomenon occurring?

Radar or a servo level gauge?
It is possible that an object is blocking the side under higher pressure inside the measuring tube, which results in an inaccurate pressure difference between the side under higher pressure and the side under lower pressure; hence, the measurement data is inaccurate.
Different types of level gauges operate on different principles. They don’t even know what a level gauge is. It’s hard for us to analyze the reasons either
Insufficient information to make a judgment. However, for liquid nitrogen storage tanks, pointer-type pressure and level gauges are generally used in field applications; if that is the case, at least the measurements will be accurate
There are 2 level gauges for measuring the nitrogen storage tank level. One is a on-site pointer-type differential pressure level gauge; the other measures the differential pressure using a Honeywell differential pressure transmitter and then converts it into a level value for display at the control station.
