Gentle experts, does anyone know which type of pump is suitable for use as an ammonia water circulation pump? Chemical centrifugal pumps are currently in use, but mechanical seal leaks occur frequently, leading to equipment corrosion. Is it appropriate to use a magnetic pump?
A regular centrifugal pump will suffice; it is recommended to use a mechanical seal with a metal bellows. Ammonia solution is prone to cavitation, and once cavitation occurs, it can easily lead to vibrations. Failures such as mechanical seal leakage. Thank you to the original poster for the advice. It is mainly because of the presence of imine components inside. I am currently using an IH50-32-160 type chemical process pump, with a mechanical seal of type 1527. Can I replace it with a mechanical seal that uses a metal diaphragm?
You can consult the mechanical seal manufacturers; it is recommended to change the design. Personally, I think mechanical seals with multiple springs are more reliable than those with a single spring, and the material of the sealing ring could also be considered for replacement
For the material of the mechanical seal, a dual-seal design is preferred. It’s best to choose a reputable manufacturer for such seals; Borgman and Dandong are both good options. To be honest, I was on the verge of crying when 4 of the ammonia water circulation pumps in our absorption towers started leaking. I’m not sure whether it’s due to poor quality of the pumps or something else. Eventually, I chose magnetic pumps for the pumps used in the ammonia water recovery tank
