Why do we need both?
The main transformer is usually 35-10 kV, while the station service transformers are generally below 10 kV
The main transformer is equivalent to the human heart, supplying blood to the entire body, while the station transformer or service transformer is akin to the coronary arteries of the heart, providing blood to the heart itself
The electricity required for lighting, power supply, signaling, control, and other purposes inside the substation comes from the station service transformer. Another advantage of using this transformer is that it ensures a continuous power supply within the station even in the event of a failure in the main transformer.
