Researchers in Bochum, Germany, are trying to improve health and safety conditions on construction sites by creating interactive training programs. This technology is intended for construction workers and professional health and safety experts. Before construction begins, health and safety experts can walk through a virtual reality version of the construction site to assess it, identify safety risks, and develop corresponding safety precautions. Virtual reality courses are also used to train workers, allowing them to explore construction sites and interact with the environment before work begins, thereby increasing their awareness of potential safety threats. Now, large construction sites have 3D models designed in advance, and researchers take advantage of this by using these models as a basis for virtual versions. By using game engines to develop these basic 3D planning models, researchers can create realistic and accurate virtual reality versions of construction sites; they can even change the weather conditions and add sound effects to enhance the realism as much as possible. Dr. Jochen Teizer, a safety expert in the construction industry, said that many accidents occur on construction sites in Germany every year, and the reason for this is mostly \"a lack of a culture of safety education within companies or insufficient requirements regarding a safe working environment,\" rather than individual mistakes by workers. Therefore, technologies that enable workers and safety experts to identify potential hazards before construction will make them more vigilant about the working environment. At the very least, receiving customized health and safety training through a virtual reality headset is more attractive than being forced to watch repetitive videos lacking real-world context.
