Is carbon steel still used for the materials of converters in newly built acid production plants? Is it better to arrange the different sections of the converter from top to bottom or from bottom to top?
The factory installed a set of equipment; the converter section was made of stainless steel while the other parts were made of carbon steel. But these days isn’t everything made of stainless steel? It’s still arranged from top to bottom – isn’t that going to kill people?! ! :@:@:@

There is also carbon steel; the grades of carbon steel generally go from 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from top to bottom, as the temperature is higher at the top and the strength of the material is lower there. The layout using stainless steel is generally determined based on the piping.
Now the total investment for carbon steel and stainless steel isn’t that different, right? We’ve used stainless steel for one of the sections – why not use it at the bottom as well?
Due to limited funding, carbon steel is used extensively; using it from the bottom up facilitates the handling of catalysts, while using it from the top down is advantageous for thermal expansion. The choice depends on the intended purpose as determined by the design

The sections of the converter are arranged from top to bottom: 3-4-5-1-2
This post was last edited by wdsh1 on 2016-10-16 08:10. It’s made of stainless steel; one section is at the bottom, and there are quite a few of them. We have both of these approaches. Top to bottom: 1-2-3-4-5, 5-3-4-2-1
For carbon steel, one section is at the top; for stainless steel, it depends on the actual piping layout, but generally one section is at the bottom
