I have just started working with valves (pneumatic valves). Could anyone tell me the difference between linear sealing and surface sealing between the valve core and the valve seat? And how do you determine whether it’s a line seal or a surface seal?

I understand that the valve seat is hollow, and the valve stem moves up and down inside this hollow valve seat; when everything is fully closed, the sealing between the valve stem and the valve seat is achieved through a ring (or one ring at the top and one at the bottom), which constitutes linear sealing. Face sealing occurs only when the valve seat is a solid surface.
It shouldn’t be like that; the valve seats I’m working with these days are all hollow, with some using linear sealing and others using surface sealing

A ball valve features surface sealing, right? Linear sealing has a characteristic in that at least one of its sealing surfaces is knife-edge shaped; however, not all devices with knife-edge shaped sealing surfaces are of the linear sealing type, and linear sealing always involves knife-edge shaped sealing surfaces
Surface sealing involves sealing an area where there is a surface; line sealing, on the other hand, has a sealing surface in the shape of a blade, with the point of contact being a line or a circle
Theoretically, there is no such thing as a linear seal; it’s only when the sealing surface is very narrow that it appears to be a linear seal. If the design sealing surface of your valve is a linear seal, then this valve cannot be used.
Linear seal: one sealing surface is spherical, and the other is conical. The sealing pair formed in this way is a line seal. Surface sealing: Similarly, cone to cone.
