We have a distillation column that operates under negative pressure. Recently, liquid sealing has occurred frequently in the rectification section; the temperature and pressure in the stripping section are very high, while the temperature and pressure of the packing in the upper part of the rectification section are very low. Now I don’t even know how to adjust it or prevent it. One can only wait for the liquid above to stay put on its own. The liquid level rose suddenly. I’m asking the experts here how to solve this and how to prevent it

Judging from the overall situation of the tower, I think foam entrainment has occurred. The reason for this is blockage in the packing, which reduces the level of foam formation. However, the evaporation rate and reflux rate are completely disrupted; it’s now impossible to determine accurately the reflux ratio and the amount of steam required
Start with a low steam flow rate and a higher reflux level, keep the gradient low, and then gradually increase it. An excessively large steam regulation amplitude, or operating at a high opening for an extended period of time, can lead to this situation. During normal operation, avoid significant adjustments to backflow and steam.
If fluid has already accumulated, wouldn’t increased backflow make the situation worse? The amount of steam will definitely decrease. Mainly, under normal operating conditions, we can no longer control the reflux ratio properly. I don’t know how to control it

If there is fluid accumulation, it needs to be reduced by adjusting the return flow; the gradient should be increased. First, it is necessary to reduce the load by lowering the amount of steam and feed, thereby increasing the gradient; this seems to be the case during both startup and shutdown processes. By reducing the pressure difference between the bottom and top of the tower, the liquid level can be lowered, which in turn raises the temperature of the tower, after which the load can be increased gradually. Also, reduce the liquid level at the bottom of the tower
