What are the considerations for controlling the amount of stripping steam?
Well, when steam is introduced, the temperature and pressure increase. But according to Dalton’s law of partial pressures, the partial pressure of A dissolved in water is proportional to the partial pressure of A vapor above it. I’m a bit confused – why does the partial pressure of the vapor above A decrease even though steam is being introduced? The question is a bit naive, but I can’t figure it out on my own; I hope a fellow netizen can give some guidance
By forcing the use of stripping gas to replace the gas phase at the liquid phase surface, the volatile components in that gas phase become extremely scarce (they are carried away by the stripping gas as soon as they volatilize), resulting in a partial pressure that is almost zero. This facilitates the transfer of volatile components from the liquid phase to the gas phase.
After stripping steam is introduced into the stripper, since the total pressure in the tower remains constant, the partial pressure of the oil-gas mixture decreases, allowing the light components to vaporize and thus achieving the purpose of stripping.
