Is it necessary to install a desalination unit for the feed water of a waste heat boiler with an evaporation capacity of 7 tons? Can softened water be used instead?
The boiler feed water passes through a water treatment unit before entering the deaerator. My question is: is it necessary to use a desalination unit during water treatment? Thank you
Desalinated water is needed, as it is steam.
It depends on your needs. Generally, industrial boilers can have their water quality treated using water softening equipment, while those with high requirements for steam quality can use desalination systems to treat the water.
It is recommended to use demineralized water; otherwise, subsequent problems with the boiler will be quite serious, and production completion cannot be guaranteed!
Considering long-term operation, it is best to use demineralized water.

The steam is used to preheat the air and then condensed for reuse; it is not connected to the power grid nor used for generating electricity
If there is no turbine behind the waste heat boiler and no steam is supplied externally, then in theory, softened water can be used.
