Technology for rapidly reducing COD in circulating water: Currently, in order to save water resources, the concentration factor of the cooling towers is increased to 4 times, resulting in a total salt concentration of around 3000 mg/l. Normal discharge into open ditches is possible; however, due to issues such as cross-connections and leaks, the COD level in the circulating water exceeds 50 mg/l and the ammonia nitrogen level exceeds 5 mg/l, making it impossible to discharge the water into such ditches. Moreover, the high total salt concentration makes discharge into underground wells impossible as well, and it may also cause damage to the equipment. It is therefore necessary to find a process that can rapidly reduce COD, so that the water can still be discharged into open ditches in case of abnormalities. Where does the backwash water from the side filter tank usually go? The concentration is higher in this part. Part of the COD is caused by microorganisms, while the majority is due to interference from chloride ions; high salt levels do not ensure a reduction in COD.
There is no perfect solution for water treatment; if pollutants cannot be broken down into inorganic substances and removed from the water, they must have some place to go – either as solids or gases – so as to reduce the concentration of pollutants in the water. Mass balance is the fundamental principle here.

OP, it’s recommended to determine what the components of COD are in order to find a targeted solution. Chemical methods are used to reduce COD quickly, but since different substances have different properties, it’s better to identify their components first in order to deal with them effectively
