The project construction period is 3 years, with a total investment of approximately 1,028,517 million yuan, of which 671,150 million yuan is allocated to environmental protection measures. The environmental impact assessment for the Baotou Shenwu polyethylene co-production demonstration project has been approved. According to the announcement, the first phase of Baotou Shenwu Coal Chemical Technology Co., Ltd.’s new calcium carbide-based acetylene chemical process for polyethylene production, with an annual capacity of 800,000 tons, is located in the Jiuyuan Industrial Park in Baotou City. The total construction scale includes an annual production of 1.2 million tons of calcium carbide (an intermediate product), 1 billion Nm3/year of fuel gas, and 400,000 tons of polyethylene ; By-product outputs include 175,000 tons per year of liquefied natural gas (LNG), 70,800 tons per year of coal tar, 4,000 tons per year of crude benzene, 2,500 tons per year of ammonium sulfate, 3,500 tons per year of sulfur, 12,630 tons per year of green oil, 11,660 tons per year of C5 mixture, and 24,300 tons per year of ethane. The main construction components include: the calcium carbide plant (including 6 preheating furnace units, 12 48,000 kVA calcium carbide furnace smelting units, pyrolysis gas purification units, etc.), the synthetic methane plant, the liquefied synthetic methane plant, the acetylene plant, the ethylene plant, the polyethylene plant, and the fuel gas production plant (including 5 fuel gas generators with a capacity of 40,000 Nm3/h), among other core facilities ; Complementary construction of storage tank areas for raw and auxiliary materials, storage tanks for intermediate raw materials and intermediates, storage tanks for products and by-products, as well as loading and unloading stations ; Synthetic methane gas tanks, acetylene gas tanks, fuel gas tanks ; Closed coal storage areas, quicklime storage areas, and additive storage areas within the plant; hazardous chemicals warehouses, chemical warehouses, and general chemical warehouses ; Central control room, central laboratory, air compression and separation station, circulating water plant, fire pump station, desalination station, power station (equipped with 2 gas boilers with a rated evaporation capacity of 35 t/h, one in use and one as a backup; no generator set is installed, as the power station serves only as a facility for producing process steam), 220 kV main substation and various lower-level substations, administrative office buildings and canteens, as well as other auxiliary facilities ; Dust removal devices for raw material crushing, screening, and transportation; wet desulfurization facilities for pyrolysis gas and fuel gas; one each of normal-temperature and low-temperature flares; plant wastewater treatment station, recycled water treatment station, accident tank, enclosed coal storage area, lime storage area, and other environmental protection facilities. On October 10, the 800,000-ton/year polyethylene co-production project using the new calcium carbide method for acetylene production developed by Shenwu Baotou was launched with ground-breaking ceremonies in the Jiuyuan Industrial Park of Baotou City. In 2016, Phase 1 of the project was launched first; it covers an area of about 2,769 mu and requires an investment of 9.5 billion yuan. It will produce 1.2 million tons of calcium carbide and 400,000 tons of polyethylene per year, with an expected output value of 4.569 billion yuan and profits and taxes amounting to 1.1 billion yuan.
