As the title suggests, I would like to know the advantages and disadvantages of using the catalyst unit to reprocess the oil slurry produced internally, as compared to using coking process oil slurry for reprocessing
Of course, it’s better to reprocess it oneself; the amount of crude oil slurry that can be reprocessed depends on the density of the feed oil. If the quality of the feed oil is good, more of it can be reprocessed, which helps to raise the bed temperature and reduce coking. It is also an effective way to control the solid content in the oil slurry, as well as to regulate the liquid level at the bottom of the distillation tower. Of course, the raw materials are quite heavy, and it’s not possible to reprocess them on-site; they have to go into the coking unit.
There is an abundance of heavy crude oil domestically, so few catalytic units do not discharge slurry. Where does the oil slurry that is discharged go? That which is suitable for coking ends up in the coking process, while the rest is mixed with heavy oil and sold as fuel oil of grade 250. Large refineries do not use this oil for coking; instead, it is used to mix with fuel oil.
Due to the content of solids in it, the price of oil slurry is very low, far lower than that of coke. However, if the amount of oil slurry used in recycling is too large, it affects the long-term operation of the catalytic reaction system; therefore, whenever possible, oil slurry is usually sent for coking. If the conditions aren’t right and long-term operation is desired, sell it mixed with oil slurry.
