I would appreciate it if fellow enthusiasts could provide guidance regarding the experimental method specified in GB/T 6324 for the water solubility test of methanol: \"Based on the water-insoluble impurities present in the samples of different products, as well as the requirements set by the product specifications, an appropriate ratio between the sample and water should be selected.\" Measure a certain volume of sample in proportion, pour it into a clean, dry colorimetric tube, slowly add water until the 100 mL mark is reached, seal the tube tightly, shake it well, and let it stand until all bubbles have disappeared. Place the colorimetric tube in a constant-temperature apparatus at (20 ± 1)°C (when using a constant-temperature water bath, the water level should be above the level of the test solution in the colorimetric tube) for 30 min. Add 100 mL of water to another 100 mL colorimetric tube made of the same material as a blank sample. After 30 minutes, remove the colorimetric tube from the temperature-controlled device, dry the outer wall of the tube, and compare the sample solution mixed with water with the blank solution axially against a black background. If an artificial light source is used, the light should pass through the colorimetric tube horizontally. ” In the analysis and testing laboratory of our factory, when conducting water solubility tests, the use of a strong flashlight yields results that are significantly better than those obtained using natural light or incandescent lamps; however, this leads to **higher requirements for the operational processes**. An incandescent lamp can be used as the light source; there’s no need to use a high-intensity light source
The standard specification states that if artificial light sources are to be used...; under normal circumstances, incandescent lamps or natural light should be used
The issue of selecting a light source for the water solubility test confuses me; especially in the later stages of methanol synthesis, there are many by-products, and the distilled product is prone to failing quality standards when operated at full capacity. The dry-process approach is really troublesome.
I just want to ask: for those of you who are involved in methanol testing and analysis, how are light sources used in your analytical work?
A laboratory daylight light source is sufficient; there is no need for a strong light source.
