As can be seen from the news below, Maoming Petrochemical was rated as having world-leading performance in its ethylene production facilities. From November 10th to 11th, the 2015 Solomon Performance Evaluation Meeting for Sinopec’s ethylene production facilities was held in Wuhan. The Solomon performance evaluation is conducted every two years, and the evaluation system consists of four indicators: competitiveness, efficiency, operational performance, and cost control. At this Solomon evaluation meeting, Maoming Petrochemical’s performance in ethylene production was rated as world-leading for the Solomon ethylene plant; it also became the company among those participating in the evaluation that achieved the highest number of indicators in the first category. Maoming Petrochemical carefully organizes its production and operations, implements refined management practices, focuses on ensuring stable, continuous, efficient operation, makes every effort to increase the total amount of ethylene produced, and comprehensively improves the operational efficiency of its facilities. In 2014, ethylene production reached 1.14 million tons, hitting a record high; the return on investment (ROI) for that year was higher than that of other similar companies within Sinopec. Maoming Petrochemical focuses on optimizing the raw material structure by improving the quality and proportion of light naphtha and reducing the proportion of naphtha used as input, thereby ensuring higher yields of dienes and other relevant indicators, as well as a significant reduction in the cost per ton of ethylene produced. Maoming Petrochemical continues to deepen its refined management practices, making the most of major renovation projects. It successfully upgraded the pyrolysis gas compressor and the ethylene distillation tower, thereby eliminating the production bottlenecks that affected the plant’s operations. After the renovations were completed in 2015, the performance metrics of Maoming Petrochemical’s ethylene plant improved significantly. The high yield of ethylene production at Maoming Petrochemical reached 61.53%, an increase of 0.78 percentage points compared to the previous year. Maoming Petrochemical has carried out extensive efforts to reduce energy consumption and waste. The chemical division has established a task force that analyzes and monitors the points where high-value products are lost on a daily basis, while also strengthening the monitoring of flare gas to prevent any loss of materials. At the same time, comprehensive optimization efforts are carried out to adjust the amount of material exchanged between the two cracking units, optimize the balance of ethylene-rich gas flow, finely tune the compressor extraction ratio, and improve the efficiency of steam utilization.
